In 1981, Hafner started working for Southwest Airlines. Since then, he has held a variety of positions, including customer service agent, operations agent, operations supervisor, customer service manager, assistant station manager, station manager, regional director, and senior director of stations.
Hafner held the position of vice president, Cabin Services, before being appointed as the VP of Customer Service.
His ability to plan strategically and lead effectively earned him the Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Leadership in Ground Operations and Southwest's Spirit Award for going above and above the call of duty.
